Thursday, 4-2 Lessons and Activities

Bible:
Let’s get our hearts ready for our Bible story. We want our hands to be still and our hearts and minds to be focused on our God.  We always start with singing the ‘Be Still and Know’ song. Go to Seesaw for the recording.  After singing along with ‘Be Still’ and Know,’ please listen to The Resurrection.  What joy can be found in this story!!  Continue to practice Matthew 28: 5-6 at home.

Writing:
This week we are continuing our Opinion Writing Unit.  Remember what we’ve learned about facts vs opinions?  We’ve spent time writing facts (things we can prove and are the same for everyone,) now we are going to spend time writing about opinions.

Head to Seesaw and watch the 4/2 writing mini-lesson.  You’ll create an opinion response on either Horses or Pickles.  (Download PDF from email or there is a separate writing paper handout in Seesaw. Or, create your own writing paper to match!)  Then, send your writing back to me via Seesaw! *If you want to do both pages, feel free!!

Math:
Head to Seesaw and watch the video/song about 3D shapes.  Can you sing along with the chorus?
Next, color the template attached on Seesaw. This may be done right on Seesaw.
Bonus challenge- Can you find cones and cylinders in your house?  Take a picture of 3 of them and send them to me!  (They can be added to your Seesaw by pushing the "adding a page" button on the bottom right of your cylinder and cones coloring sheet.)

Reading:
Start with Phonemic Awareness practice!  This should take about 10 minutes.  (Parents our curriculum provider, Heggerty, has graciously offered three weeks of free lessons during our time away from the classroom.  Please check out the training video and resources.  Parents-please know that teachers spent an afternoon receiving training in this curriculum.  There are several motions for each section of the daily lesson.  No need to master these motions—try your best, but your child will be a great leader for this!

**Phonemic Awareness lessons are attached to the email. Work on ‘Friday’ of week 20.

Kindergartners, be sure to show your family members how we use these motions during our learning!  You can be a great teacher!

Following the Heggerty lesson…..We are continuing our Characters Reading Unit together!  Before our mini-lesson, listen to my Owen read aloud again on Seesaw. Then, head to the Seesaw 4/2 mini-lesson and respond with a video or picture detailing a time when you and a character experienced the same problem.

*Optional* Extras/Additional opportunities:

*Write a letter or card to mail to a friend, family member, or Mrs. Becksfort

*Research something new – this is a great time to learn all about a new topic you've been curious about. Outer space? The Grand Canyon? A famous American? The possibilities are endless!

*Learn to cook or bake something – there is quite a bit of math involved in cooking and baking!  Read the recipe, find the ingredients, set the oven, measure the ingredients, assemble the dish, and of course try it when it's done. It's also a great time to help with meals at home -assist in making them, setting the table, and washing the dishes afterwards!

*Do some Fitness- search YouTube for ‘Cosmic Kids Yoga,’ ‘Zumba for Kids,’ or ‘goNoodle.’

*Practice a sport or play a game outside

*Play with some playdoh or magnets

*Take a virtual fieldtrip
