Closing out February!

It seems so strange to see a March date on the calendar for the weekend!  I am amazed at how quickly our days, weeks, and months together are flying by!  The kindergartners have been in school for 72 days and continue to grow spiritually and academically each day that they are here.  I am so proud of your child’s growth and stand in awe of God’s continued work in our classroom!


Curriculum Update:
Writing: Introduction to All About Writing
Bible: King Solomon
Math: Numbers 1-20 and Story Problems 
Literacy Block: Author's Craft  
Phonics: Oo and Syllable Blending  
Science: Motion 

Announcements/Looking Ahead:
BAG Books:
Thank-you for your help in making BAG books a success!  As your child continues to practice and read new books, please note that the difficulty level often varies even between the ‘letter level’ of each book.  Your child may read some books with ease, but may have more difficulty with other books.  The books we use are intentionally designed to vary in difficulty level so that they can both build your child’s reading confidence, as well as offer challenges along the way.  Thanks again for your help with this program!  Please be sure that your child returns his or her books every Monday.
Bible Memory:
Our March Bible Memory is Matthew 28: 5-6.  Thank-you for your continued practice at home!

Fun Night:
Friday, March 13, 2020 5:30 - 8:00pm at Pine Ridge.  
We need LOTS of volunteers to help make this night possible.  Please consider some of the following volunteer opportunities: baking cupcakes, serving pizza for supper, working one of the shifts for a game, and donating cans of pop or other candy.  
All donations may be dropped off in the schools offices.  Please bring your donations to school no later than Friday, March 6.

Short Week!

We had a fun and productive, short week in our kindergarten classroom!  In addition to participating in chapel led by Mr. Howell, we spent time talking about Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and President’s Day.  The kindergartners enjoyed talking about the presidents and imagined what it would be like to be a president in our school and for the United States.

More Winter Days :)

Can you believe we are already half way through February? We had a great time exploring and playing at the ODC.  It is wonderful to watch the kindergartners explore and problem solve in their outdoor play.  It is also such a gift to spend time in nature and notice the details and beauty in God's snowy playscape.  

 Additionally, the kindergartners and I enjoyed welcoming preschoolers into our classroom for a story and STEM project.  Kindergartners and preschoolers collaborated to build tall towers with unique designs!  

 Finally, we enjoyed celebrating Valentine's Day and talking about spreading acts of kindness in our school and surrounding community.  The kindergartners and I are continually seeking to act in ways that reflect our love for God and His people.

Maker's Week

Our South Siders had a wonderful time creating, building, and engaging in Makers Week!  The students focused on celebrating our creative God and strengthening their own creative gifts and abilities.  Likewise, students focused on planning, collaborating, and implementing problem-solving skills. Please be sure to ask your son or daughter about his or her experiences over the past week!

Wipes:
We are also almost out of wipes for cleaning desks and table surfaces in our classroom.  If you are willing and able to donate wet wipes or bleach wipes, it would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Markers:
Many kindergartners' markers are beginning to dry out.  If you have any extra markers at home and would be willing to pass a few along, please send them to school with your son or daughter.  We will put them to great use!  Thanks!
