Thursday, 3/19 Lessons and Activities

Thursday, March 19

Bible:
Let’s get our hearts ready for our Bible story. We want our hands to be still and our hearts and minds to be focused on our God.  We always start with singing the ‘Be Still and Know’ song. Go to Seesaw for the recording and story.  After singing along with ‘Be Still’ and Know,’ please listen to me read the Jonah story (with a few more details) from one of our classroom storybook Bibles.

Writing:
Remember all the work we’ve done with nonfiction books in both reading and writing?  Here’s your chance to continue to show what you know!

In our classroom, we’ve been working hard on completing an All About book on an animal of your choice.  When we get back to school, you can share this particular book with our class.

Go back to the book you started yesterday.  Also, get ready to find your particular animal nonfiction book in Epic (found in the mailbox along the bottom.)

**Watch my quick All About clip on Seesaw!

1. Next, review your animal facts from yesterday. Did you finish your cover page and diagram?  If not, start with these!
2. Then, start on the writing pages.  You should focus on completing the pages and habitat pages today.  If you can finish those, head right to the facts page!  I gave you two fact pages so that you can write two facts. Maybe you can fit even more on these pages!
3. If you finish today, you can write the correct number pages in the table of contents.  If you don’t, please come back to this on Friday and finish the book!
4. Send me pages via Seesaw or email as you finish! I can’t WAIT to read them!!!

Math:
Please head back to Seesaw and find our math lesson for today!  We are going to review math symbols and complete an addition/subtraction paper from your folder.

Reading:
Start with Phonemic Awareness practice!  This will take about 10 minutes.  (Parents our curriculum provider, Heggerty, has graciously offered three weeks of free lessons during our time away from the classroom.  Please check out the training video and resources.  Parents-please know that teachers spent an afternoon receiving training in this curriculum.  There are several motions for each section of the daily lesson.  No need to master these motions—try your best, but your child will be a great leader for this!

**Phonemic Awareness lessons are attached to the email. Work on ‘Friday’ of week 18.

Kindergartners, be sure to show your family members how we use these motions during our learning!  You can be a great teacher!

Following the Heggerty Review, get ready to talk about Fiction and Nonfiction books.  Head back to Seesaw for a mini-lesson on comparing fiction and nonfiction books on the same topic.

*Optional* Extras/Additional opportunities:

*Math Game (see attached to email)

*Write a letter or card to mail to a friend, family member, or Mrs. Becksfort!

*Research something new – this is a great time to learn all about a new topic you've been curious about. Outer space? The Grand Canyon? A famous American? The possibilities are endless!

*Learn to cook or bake something – there is quite a bit of math involved in cooking and baking!  Read the recipe, find the ingredients, set the oven, measure the ingredients, assemble the dish, and of course try it when it's done. It's also a great time to help with meals at home -assist in making them, setting the table, and washing the dishes afterwards!

*Play outside

*Check out 'goNoodle' or 'Cosmic Kids Yoga!'
